(a) Meat. Section 501 of the Federal Meat Inspection Act (21 U.S.C. 683) is amended by striking subsection (j) and inserting the following:
(j) Federal outreach. In each of fiscal years 2027 through 2031, the Secretary shall conduct outreach to States that—
(1) have a State meat inspection program pursuant to section 301; but
(2) do not have a selected establishment.
(k) Report. Not later than September 30 of each of fiscal years 2027 through 2031, the Secretary shall submit to the Committees on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and Appropriations of the Senate and the Committees on Agriculture and Appropriations of the House of Representatives a report that describes the outreach activities carried out under subsection (j) and the results of that outreach.
(b) Poultry. Section 31 of the Poultry Products Inspection Act (21 U.S.C. 472) is amended by striking subsection (i) and inserting the following:
(i) Federal outreach. In each of fiscal years 2027 through 2031, the Secretary shall conduct outreach to States that—
(1) have a State poultry product inspection program pursuant to section 5; but
(2) do not have a selected establishment.
(j) Report. The Secretary shall include in the report required under subsection (k) of section 501 of the Federal Meat Inspection Act (21 U.S.C. 683) a description of the outreach activities carried out under subsection (i) and the results of that outreach.
