DOJ and DHS, acting under the authority and control of President Trump, have refused to cooperate with local investigations, refused to disclose the names of the perpetrators, claimed the officers involved acted in self-defense, and are painting Mr. Araujo as an aggressor before any investigation has been completed. These self-defense claims are not supported by available video evidence and are contradicted by witnesses. Federal officials also publicly insinuated that Mr. Araujo was involved in narcotics activity by highlighting the discovery of a crystal-like substance in his vehicle. Subsequent laboratory testing confirmed that the substance was not an illicit drug, disproving those suggestions.
